Dr Seraphim Alvanides
Profile
»I have an interdisciplinary background with studies in surveying engineering and computational geography and work experience as a GIS professional. My early research was concerned with quantifying obesogenic environments and active transport, as well as with understanding processes of urban sprawl. More recently, my research interests shifted to spatial humanities, with projects investigating historical street name changes and analysing maps of urban destruction from the second world war. The constant in my scholarship and teaching has been the development and application of spatial methods for understanding urban environments and their impact on various social groups. I am a co-editor of the journal Environment and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science, as well as an editorial/advisory board member of five other international journals.«
