Spatial Modelling Lab @ Climathon 2020
Climate change affects everyone and is one of the great challenges of our time! This is why the ImpactHub Germany (a social entrepreneurship community) and Climate-KIC (a knowledge and innovation community supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology) jointly organised an 'ideas marathon' called Climathon Germany 2020 focusing on urban climate innovations, the world's largest event of its kind. Among the participating groups were teams from Facebook, various city councils and also from TU Dortmund University in cooperation with Dortmund University of Applied Sciences. Similar to the established format of a hackathon, all participating groups had the task of jointly developing start-up ideas that have the potential to contribute to tackling climate change. The Spatial Modelling Lab contributed an expert session on mapping urban green spaces. Starting with a short introduction to the economic value of geoinformation, the importance of urban green spaces and the OpenStreetMap project, participants were invited to map unmapped urban green spaces in Dortmund and beyond. The aim of this session was to make the participants aware of the possibilities that geoinformation offers not only for climate change solutions but also for business and start-up ideas.
