Contribution to the 37th AESOP Annual Congress

This year’s 37th AESOP Annual Congress with the theme "Planning as a Transformative Action in an Age of Planetary Crisis" was hosted by the Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey. Liudmila contributed to the Track ‘Theories,’ which opened a discussion on the transformative potential of planning theories under the recent manifold global crises. Liudmila’s contribution argues for a stronger integration of the theoretical notion of place as a mid-range conceptual framework bridging theory and empirical application. The theoretically grounded notion of place offers an umbrella key word for planning as it links the physical realities of urban spaces with the human dimension of spatial experience. In addition, Liudmila took part in sessions held by the AESOP Thematic Group on Planning Education, engaging in an exchange on teaching practices and planning curricula. The full paper titled “What planning needs from theorizing on place in times of global challenges” is to be published in the AESOP Annual Congress 2025 Proceedings soon. The next and 38th AESOP Annual Congress will take place in Helsinki–Tampere–Espoo from June 29 to July 4, 2026.
