Abstract:
The concept of the “climate strike” has captivated activists and observers, heralded by Collins Dictionary as word of the year in 2019, amid movements like Ende Gelände, Greta Thunberg's school strike for climate, and Extinction Rebellion/Just Stop Oil. In this talk, Dr Kurtz provides an original conceptualisation and definition of the “climate strike”, towards the end of clarifying the role and strategic value of direct action in the struggle against capitalogenic global warming and the political and spatial production of climate justice.
